The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) have developed a set of assessments that measure whether students are on track to be successful in college and their careers. These assessments are computer-based and will be administered to students grades K–12 in Mathematics and English Language Arts/Literacy. The New Jersey Biology Competency Test (NJBCT)
The New Jersey Biology Competency Test (NJBCT) is a state test given to students to measure whether they have gained the knowledge and skills identified in the Biology section of the Science Core Curriculum Content Standards (CCCS).

The SAT is a national test given to students interested in attending a four year college or university. Although there are some colleges and universities that are SAT optional, most colleges and universities require a minimum score on the SAT as one of their criteria for admission. Students should also be aware that some colleges and universities may also require the SAT Subject Test. Garfield High School is an approved College Board Testing Center.

The ACT is another national test given to students interested in attending a four year college or university. Although the SAT is more commonly accepted, most colleges and universities will accept scores from either test as part of the criteria for admission. Students are encouraged to learn more about the ACT to determine if this test is a better option for them.
